Sonic Drive In Review and Southgate Michigan Location

So I took some advice posted in the comments of Sonic Advertising and ate at a Sonic tonight. I was torn.
Positive:
- Blue coconut Slush was good.
- Clean
- Nice to see the roller waiter/waitress back in style and I liked the retro-drive in setup
Bad:
- Fries were cold
- Drive-thru took 10 minutes and we were the only people in line
- No ice in Lindsay’s lime-aid
- Popcorn chicken container has a built-in sauce holder, which you would think would be a postivie. However, when you try to use it, the sauce blocks your access to the chicken because the holder is on the lid of the chicken container.

Realizations mixed with a few Complaints

This weekend we were on the west side of the mitten. Looking for dinner, not wanting standard fast-food fair, and not finding an appealing sit-down restaurant, we tried the local Dogs-n-Suds in Montague. It’s similar to Sonic in look, service, and menu.
The review: The food was good, service quick, and everything was hot. The only disappointment for the girls was the lack of specialty drinks (like the slushy and lime-aid) ala Sonic.

I went to Sonic this morning to try out the Mocha Java Chiller for the first time. I simply asked if the Java Chiller was served with Chocolate Ice Cream and the employee was very rude. He was like, Mocha is Chocolate and we serve it with soft icecream and that’s the way it’s always been done. I know what Mocha is, I was just wondering about the flavor’s of icecream that’s served with it. I don’t know if he was stressed out but I’ve had better service.

Today is the first day of business for a new Sonic drive-in opened in Southgate, MI. It doesn’t show on their store locater yet.

I just wish someone would get wise and open a Skyline Chili. One of the few good things that came out of Ohio.

I live in Southgate, MI and I’ve seen how busy Sonic has been since the day it opened, therefore I dont believe you were the only one in the drive thru line….SORRY BUDDY!!!

Sorry Sara, but I ate at a Sonic in Ohio while I was driving through the state and was the only car in the drive-thru.

How did you post a response on May 16th, when we didn’t open until the 21st??? That seems a LITTLE STRANGE.
I am a Crew Leader at Sonic and in respose to

You are supposed to FOLD the lid OPEN and place your dipping sauce cup into the OPENING. This would provide you with access to your chicken.

This would be because there are SONICS all over OHIO and it is brand new to MI. We shattered the original opening day record for sales by $6,000. That record has been held for over 8 years. We also broke the record for ANY fast food chain opening in the history of business. Right now we have the highest grossing store in the U.S. and we are BUSY from Open to close. Cars have to form lines outside the parking lot just to get in. The longest wait we had for a single car was 3 1/2 hours. Good luck and happy eating.

Yes, this post has morphed from an original post about Sonic food to the location of the Sonic in southgate. Someone asked where it was located and it’s taken it’s course from there
The chicken thing: if you have to explain it to me, it needs work. The design should be more intuitive, but I’ll give it a shot next time.
Congrats on the records and maybe I’ll take you up on your offer one of these days.

There was a Skyline Chili in downtown Monroe but has since closed due to lack of business 😦 It was a sad day

We ate at the southgate sonic today and it was okay. Not good enough to go back. We just didn’t think it was anything special. The fruit smoothie was good. The burger was, well a burger. My coney dog with mustard was drowing in mustard. Yuck! The onion rings tasted odd and they were rather hard. I think I’ll stick to A&W. Did I mentioned the smoothie was good?!?
Waitresses on skates, cute. Drinks good. Advertising superior. They got me in there, once. I’m glad I wasn’t food enough to wait 3 1/2 hours for it!

Actually… Eating at this place is like asking for a chronic dis-ease… it’s ridiculous that so many of you are so patheticallly foolish to call this crap food. Haha.

Grew up in Oklahoma. Have had a Sonic around for years. Food is good, service is usually excellent and by the way, the “hard” onion rings are fresh and made daily. Maybe you people aren’t used to a quality product (fresh vs. frozen). Haven’t had a decent burger since moving to MI years ago. A welcome addition to MI. OH……and if you are not smart enough to figure out a sauce holder, are we really supposed to take your review seriously???

what are the hours at the southgate sonic location. I tried calling but no one answers the phone. Guess they were busy. Oh well love the food. Drove to Franklin OH to get sonic from Romulus MI. Sonic is well worth the drive. I would like one closer though.

OK…after many years, we have a Sonic. I have been waiting to go there and now that it has occurred, here is the review. Three thumbs down. Positives = milkshakes are as good as Dairy Queen. Negatives = Thousand Island Burger lacked thousand island dressing and the itsy bitsy it had was watered down, onion rings tasted like boardwalk batter and was too thick, chicken was blah, fries were blah blah, $16 worth of BLAH equals …”we shall not return except for the milk shakes….and probably between 2 and 4 when they are half price. Hedgehog out, back to my hole.
