Cleaning Corn in the Store?
June 30, 2009
Since when are you able to shuck corn in the store and leave the husks all over the display? I have seen people doing this multiple times and I feel it is quite rude. What makes these people think this is OK? You don’t see anyone opening up a cantaloupe, scoping out the seeds, cutting up pieces and leaving the rind behind do you? Put your corn in a bag, take it home and clean it there, just like everyone else.

Arrg! Yes, this is one of my peeves too. Meijer puts trash bins at the store by the corn, but it’s still a disastrous mess. What bugs me is when people pull down part of the husk to see if the corn is OK and then leave them there if they don’t meet their standards. I know it shouldn’t bug me that they want only quality ears of corn, but it does.
Do it the old fashioned way. Pick it up. Hold it in your hands. Give it a gentle caress. You’ll know if it’s the right one.
