One Large Glass of Milk
I went to The Original Pancake House for breakfast this morning and along with my pancake, eggs and bacon meal, I ordered a large milk. The following images depict the size of the ‘large’ milk.

The first compares the size of the glass to a standard syrup container (I’m sure you’ve used one at some point). The second picture shows the same size orange juice. I estimate I got about 12oz of milk.
My issue here is price. The milk was $2.69. I paid for nearly an entire gallon. There are 128 ounces in a gallon, which translates to about 10 glasses per gallon, which translates to $26.90 in total revenue to the store.
Oh, and the OJ, it was only slightly more expensive. $4.39. WOW
UPDATE
July 30th, 1PM PST
Today at lunch, I got a glass that represented exactly what I was expecting when ordering a ‘large’ glass:

The first picture compares the glass to a typical bottle of Tabasco. Not exactly the same scale as the maple syrup dispenser, but at least it’s a reference. The second picture shows the wide mouth of the glass. Huge is the only word to describe it.

Eating enough breakfast?
I was talking an online survey and one question stuck me as odd:
12. How often do you eat breakfast in a typical week?
Never
1 time
2-5 times
The choices presented to me don’t represent my breakfast intake of 7 days a week. Apparently not eating breakfast is very common. So much so, that ‘Never’ and ‘once a week’ make up 2/3 of the options.

CNN News 1 Step Closer to TMZ
The hotel TV in the breakfast room is always set to CNN in the morning. This morning, a 10 minute long section of the news was devoted to ‘Showbiz Tonight’ stories. This is CNN’s equvialent of Hollywood Insider, TMZ, or any other gossip news show. CNN describes the show as follows:
Showbiz Tonight” is TV’s most provocative entertainment news show. Hosted by A.J. Hammer in New York with Brooke Anderson in Hollywood, “Showbiz Tonight” reports, discusses and debates the most controversial and topical stories involving Hollywood’s biggest celebrities
My issue with this is mostly, I think of CNN as a respectable news source. Integrating 10 minutes worth of ‘celebrity news’ tells me CNN is struggling to come up with real news stories. Leave the celeb gossip for the no talent hosts on E! and Fox and retain your dignity.

Chipper Jones; Not on steroids – one of the few in MLB
I was watching ESPN and I can tell you one man who is not taking steroids. Chipper Jones from the Atlanta Braves. As much as I hate that team, I have to admit that he looks nearly the same as he did 15 years ago and is playing pretty well too.
Rookie Card from ‘93.

Another Image from Chippers personal website. The picture is pretty recent.

Requirements to Live in San Francisco
In my short time here, I’ve realized that there are 2 things you must have, or acquire upon arrival, to live here: at least 1 dog and a bike. I’m pretty sure I saw 1.5x as many dogs as people today. And I’ve never seen more people on bikes. They are everywhere.

Partly Sunny vs. Partly Cloudy
An interesting Facebook status lead me to look up the difference between Partly Sunny and Partly Cloudy. The following page gives a good idea of when to use what:

Hotel Maid’s First Duty
One of the very first things that should happen when a hotel room is prepared for new occupants is to turn the alarm clock to off. It’s easily overlooked by the new travler and disruptive in the morning when they attempt to sleep in.

California ‘Dollar’ Store
So I’ve been in CA for a few days and pretty much everything is fairly similar here, bar the 50 cent increase in gas prices and the endless signs about causes of cancer. Anyway, while driving I noticed California’s version of the Dollar Store. They are called Dollar Quarter stores. Everything is $1.25 instead of $1 like the dollar stores we are used to in the midwest.
Signs of things to come? Hopefully not. Dollar Quarter is a terrible name.

Expected Tip
Today at lunch my bill was $7.95. I paid with a $20 and received 12.05 in change. What caught me by surprise however was the change consisted of one $5, seven $1, and a nickel. Did this waiter really expect more than a $2.05 tip? $2.05 on a $7.95 bill is over 25%.
Now some of you may attempt to point out that they may have been out of $10’s or $5’s. Really? The whole restaurant has ONE five and a pile of one’s???
